This includes selected mixed-methods final evaluations of international development projects for which I led the design, data collection, and writing.
Strategic Analysis and Planning
This is a selection of deliverables that I have produced for a full-time employer or an external client related to strategic decision making, including policy recommendations for meetings with government officials, recommendations for project activities including whether and how to roll out a new product and how to integrate female and youth empowerment. Many strategy recommendations are based on quantitative impact estimation and social return on investment (SROI) calculations, but those are all complex and dynamic Excel sheets which can unfortunately not be uploaded here.
Venture37 GIS Strategy Analysis
This is a presentation I made during a meeting of Land O'Lakes Venture37 leaders to share findings and strategy recommendations coming out of a scoping project I conducted on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in agricultural development. The presentation covers the current uses of GIS by competitors, opportunities and resources for using GIS including widespread public data and expertise within Land O'Lakes Inc., potential impactful application cases Venture37 could consider in the future, and the level of interest by key donors in GIS. Based on the findings I shared a recommended strategy for how Venture37 should better integrate GIS into its work in the future and facilitated a discussion with meeting attendees.
Gender and Youth Action Plan - GENEX CDP 2024
An analysis of the issues facing women and youth, and proposed project strategy for addressing those issues and increasing empowerment of these groups, in the target countries (Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria) of the CDP Strengthening Cooperatives to Support Climate-Smart Livestock Systems project that was to be implemented by GENEX from 2024-2028.
1AF Ethiopia Seed Program Recommendations for 2019
This was a briefing that I prepared for a decision meeting with One Acre Fund Ethiopia leaders to determine the future of the seed multiplication pilot, in which I recommended which interventions to continue, scale up, or drop based on trial results and SROI analysis.
1AF Rwanda Maize seed policy recommendations
This was a maize variety trial summary and policy recommendation brief that I prepared for the One Acre Fund Rwanda (also known as TUBURA) government department prior to a set of meetings they had to discuss securing government permission to sell maize seed. It includes key discussion points and questions for government officials as well as estimated orders TUBURA would place once permission was secured.
1AF Rwanda Banana Roll-out Recommendations
This was a briefing that I prepared for a decisions meeting by the One Acre Fund Rwanda leadership in which I recommended the introduction at scale of a new product for sale to farmers, tissue culture banana plantlets, based on results of trials my team had conducted
Academic Writings
This includes articles published in peer-reviewed journals, university publications, and research institute working papers. I led the data collection and key content of most, even if I am not listed as the main author. The exception is the "Environmental Management" article, for which I wrote only the literature review.

This includes selected reports of agronomic trials and new product pilots that I managed, and for which I led the data collection and analysis, while working at One Acre Fund Rwanda and Ethiopia.
New Business/Proposal Work
This shows a selection of work I have done on project proposals for donor funding for NGO clients. Primarily I have written initial monitoring & evaluation plans and developed performance indicators and target, but I have also helped with problem identification and theory of change development used to guide the design of project activities.
MEL Plan for Empowering Local Systems in Agriculture (ELSA) Lebanon Project Proposal
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning plan section for a Venture37 project proposal to USAID/Lebanon. I wrote the MEL plan including the indicator table, the project's results framework, and the details of the project's "component 3" which dealt with utilizing MEL data.
ELSA Lebanon Full Theory of Change
Full Theory of Change diagram that I mapped out based on design sessions I facilitated with the full Land O'Lakes Venture37 ELSA project proposal team. This was not included as-is in the proposal itself, but was used to guide activity design and development of the project approach.

Farmer-Facing Training & Tools
This includes a selection of training scripts and visual guides that I developed, in a participatory and iterative manner with farmer clients and local colleagues, when working for One Acre Fund in Ethiopia and Rwanda and which were then used at scale by field team members to increase farmer adoption of best practices.
Seed Cleaning & Bagging Protocol Guide
This was a personalized manual that I developed for a farmer cooperative that One Acre Fund Ethiopia supported to multiply and sell quality teff seed. They had received a seed cleaning machine from another project but never put it into operation, so our team helped them to do so. I reviewed the technical manual for the machine in detail, communicated with the manufacturer, and our team ran physical tests together with cooperative members to set up the machine, connect it to a generator, run it for seed cleaning, and work out a professional packaging plan. I documented the recommended standard operating procedures that we developed through these tests in this guide.
Compost Making Guide for Nursery Operators
A guide for 1AF Ethiopia tree program for how to prepare and utilize quality compost to use in seedling production. Based on field input it is very short and includes images for each step.
Ethiopia Seedling Planting Training
Scripted training (with recommendations on what to show, what to say, what to have farmers practice) for 1AF field officers to use on the day of tree seedling distribution to teach farmers how to properly plant and care for their seedlings and to motivate them to adopt the recommended practices. I led the development, field testing, and iterative improvement of this training over several years.
1AF Rwanda Human Nutrition Training
A simple scripted training for field officers teach farmers about key principles of nutrition, including a colorful visual "healthy diet" chart which was given to all farmer clients. I designed the training and visual tool in a participatory manner with the field team then led field testing and improvement over several years.
1AF Rwanda Planting Guide 2017A-B Season
A visual guide for small farmer clients of One Acre Fund in Rwanda showing best practices for planting multiple key crops. I led the team of graphic designers and others which developed and perfected this guide. It was used by all 1AF Field officers during bi-annual crop trainings and a copy was given to all farmer clients.
1AF Rwanda Crop Health Guide
A booklet provided to all 1AF Rwanda field officers which included a simple guide for how to identify and control the most common pest and diseases for key crops. I led the development of the guide's content, design and training for field officers on its use.
